Looks like Marvel's found the right star to play its Mad Titan.
Ever since he popped up wordlessly at the end of The Avengers in 2012, we've been waiting to see more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of Thanos, one of the biggest and baddest villains in the history of Marvel Comics. We've known for some time that Thanos has a role in this summer's Guardians of the Galaxy (he's apparently Ronan the Accuser's boss), and we've gotten more than a few teases about his presence (and the presence of his rocket throne) from Guardians director James Gunn and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. What we haven't heard is who will play this iconic role -- until now.
According to Latino Review's sources, Marvel has tapped Oscar-nominated actor Josh Brolin to voice Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Genre fans will know Brolin from things like Planet Terror, Men in Black 3, Hollow Man, Jonah Hex and the upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (he was also one of the actors considered for the Batman role in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), but Brolin's career is also packed with a diverse slate of critically acclaimed dramas like No Country for Old Men, Milk, American Gangster, W. and many more. He's a powerful screen presence, and he's got a commanding and compelling voice that will certainly lend a lot of weight to the Thanos role right away.
Marvel has not yet confirmed this news, so we don't yet know anything further about how big Brolin's role might be or how many films he might have signed on for, though if the hints Marvel's been dropping in things like Thor: The Dark World are any indication, Thanos is likely to be a big part of Marvel's movie plans going forward. When (and if) this does become official, we'll let you know. In the meantime, what do you think? Good casting?
