As Fox’s one-time hit Sleepy Hollow looks to reinvent itself in Season 4, the series is taking a few pages from the playbook of one of the network’s oldest successes to try and get it right.
TV Line reports the series will be adding a new, female lead to replace Nicole Beharie’s Abbie this fall, and the character has been strongly likened to Scully from The X-Files. Named Anna, the character is described as a “raging supernatural skeptic” who will have some conflict with Crane. She is a single mother and former military officer who literally works in the Secret Service’s “Basement” program, which is basically The X-Files. But not.
Here’s the description:
“She’s got a tough, take-charge personality, punctuated by a wry sense of humor. She’s a born leader, but she also has a softer, more caring side which she rarely shows. She is fiercely devoted to her 11-year-old daughter Stella, a protective instinct Crane respects and appreciates.”
The character is described as a 30-something woman, but aside from that, the studio is apparently very open in regard to casting. Which is good, considering they knocked off one of the few black, female leads in a network genre show. The skeptic dynamic worked well for X-Files, but at this point in the game, introducing a skeptic seems a little silly. We all know this evil stuff is real. That's not a question.
Sleepy Hollow Season 4 will return to Fox’s schedule in early 2017.
