When you're The Eater of Children, an ancient demonic entity bent on scorching the souls of innocent children, you leave a trail of woe angered survivors may want to try and trace. Check out a new featurette bringing us up to speed on the unholy doings of Buhguul from the upcoming Sinister 2, with the cast and creative team chiming in on the motivations and master plan of the franchise's homicidal home movie-making maniac
Co-written by C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson, director of the original Sinister from 2012 and Marvel's Doctor Strange project, this follow-up seems to venture briefly into the torture-porn territory inhabited by the Saw franchise, blended with the obligatory brutal Boogey Man scares. Sophomore horror efforts often feel the need to intensify the fright factor with gratuitous gore and sometimes stumble by overly saturating the engaging elements that made the first film appealing. We'll have to wait and see if Sinister 2 suffers from that curse.
Here's the official synopsis from Gramercy Pictures:
“In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life brothers Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Buhguul continues to spread with frightening intensity.“
Take a peek at this latest featurette and tell us if the malevolent Mr. Boogie still creeps you out.
Directed by Ciaran Foy (Citadel), Sinister 2 creeps into theaters on August 21, 2015.
