New Star Wars: The Last Jedi marketing drops some intriguing Dark Side intel

Lucasfilm is playing pretty much everything close to the vest with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but a new IMAX theatre stand-up for the eagerly awaited sequel might’ve just dropped a major theme heading into the December release.

Potential spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

A new in-theater stand-up advertisement for the film’s IMAX release challenges fans to choose “Light Side or Dark Side,” with the advertisement split into two literal sides. On the light side you have: Rey, Finn, Leia, Chewbacca, and Luke Skywalker (along with a few others). On the dark side: Kylo Ren, Phasma, and … Luke Skywalker? Also of note: It’s Luke, not Snoke, standing over the Dark Side villains.

Yeah, that’s right — Luke shows up on both sides of the advertisement, with his “Dark Side” variant sporting a dark hood over his head, while his “Light Side” version has the gray hair and beard flowing. This seems to lean into the theme that Luke could morally go either way after returning to the world from his self-imposed exile, and seemingly confirms that will be a key question in the sequel.

Fresh off the film’s new trailer, this advertisement leaves us with a whole lot more questions while we wait for December 15 to roll around.
