With San Diego Comic-Con kicking off in earnest this week, Warner Bros. is keen to generate some additional buzz around its upstart DC project that doesn’t have a “v” in the title: Suicide Squad.
The studio has dropped a few new clips and trailers, as part of a larger rollout of footage to try and show this is definitely a different corner of the dour world Zack Snyder is trying to build. The more we see from Suicide Squad, the more obvious it becomes that director David Ayer (Fury) is creating something very, very different.
The scenes below focus on four different characters: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, the Joker and the Enchantress. We get to see more of Will Smith’s Deadshot and his antipathy to being locked up by Amanda Waller. Oh, and he really doesn’t like being threatened. There’s also a great little elevator set piece with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as she takes out a baddie while also texting … well, you can guess who. Speaking of which, there's also a clip focused on Jared Leto's Joker. But the most interesting piece of footage is the clip keying in on Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress. There’s definitely magic in the DC film universe, and it looks freaky as hell.
Suicide Squad opens Aug. 5.
