Anticipation for Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower has been quietly building in intensity amid the deafening summer ripple of superhero costumes, pirate galleons and transforming alien robots, but rest assured, this sci-fi fantasy loosely based on Stephen King's classic novels is destined to make a bold statement at the box office when it opens on August 4.

A new featurette from Sony Pictures, titled "Magnum Opus," has just dropped, showcasing a six-gun full of new footage and commentary by Stephen King, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey that illuminates how the feature reflects echoes of King's other books and adaptations, including IT, Cujo, Misery and The Shining.

Here's the official synopsis:

The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle.
