New York Comic Con 2017: All the cool stuff we can't wait to see

The annual East Coast geek celebration New York Comic Con is swiftly approaching, with the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC set to fling its doors open to attendees October 5-8. So what cool stuff will be there?

This festive geek gathering drew an estimated 180,000 visitors last year and is quickly becoming a prime venue for releasing juicy Hollywood teasers and clips showcasing the most desirable new movies and TV shows, unveilings of collector statues, glimpses of limited-run toys, announcements for comic-book crossover events, and curtain pulls for coveted video games, second only to the yearly maelstrom in San Diego.

Must-see unveilings are popping up daily, so we've rounded up a few of the choicest newly announced sneaks and surprises to sprint for if your schedule allows, from the King chaos in Hulu's Castle Rock; Keanu Reeves' sci-fi thriller Replicas; and Funko novelties for Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and Westworld to an early glimpse of Pacific Rim 2; a gab session with Gotham's creative gang; an intriguing look at the fresh season of Fox's The X-Files; and a whole lot more.

It's a Funko world, we're just living in it! Check out the Washington-based toy behemoth's lineup of 10 more adorable NYCC exclusives including releases for Netflix's Trollhunters, The Walking Dead, Westworld, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Land of the Lost, and Doctor Who.  Feast on this awesome array of fantastic new toys in their official preview video and tell us which ones you must have.

KEANU REEVES PLAYS GOD IN REPLICAS

Lotus Entertainment and John Wick star Keanu Reeves are pulling out some fresh footage for their upcoming indie sci-fi flick, Replicas. Reeves portrays a grieving scientist who explores radical cloning technology to resurrect his family after they die in a tragic traffic accident. Star Trek's Alice Eve plays Reeves' wife and The Day After Tomorrow's screenwriter Jeffrey Nachmanoff directs. Join Reeves and his director Thursday, Oct. 5 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in room 1A06 for the Replicas presentation and panel.

AMAZON OPENS ELECTRIC DREAM CASTLES

NYCC'S Hammerstein Ballroom is the destination for more details on the second season of The Man in the High Castle and our first look at Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. The Amazon panel runs 10:30-11:30 a.m on Friday. Panelists for The Man in the High Castle include Rufus Sewell (Dark City), Rupert Evans (Hellboy) and Jason O’Mara (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), along with Executive Producers Eric Overmyer (Bosch, The Affair)and Dan Percival (Strike Back).

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams panelists include Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) Executive Producers Michael Dinner (Justified) and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), along with Isa Dick Hackett (The Adjustment Bureau), who is EP on both series.

 

PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING CRASHES THE PARTY

The follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's 2014 mech vs kaiju spectacle, Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim: Uprising (formerly Pacific Rim: Maelstrom) is a curious beast that is still clouded by studio secrecy even though it's due to launch March 23, 2018. Directed by Daredevil season 1 showrunner, Steven DeKnight, and starring Star Wars: The Force Awakens' John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from the first film, nobody is sure what to expect.  But Legendary-Universal plan on stunning fans with the premiere of the first trailer.  Stomp on over to the Pacific Rim: Uprising panel on Friday, October 6th at 12 p.m., with director Steven DeKnight, John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Burn Gorman, and Cailee Spaeny attending.

AMERICAN GODS TAKE OVER NEW YORK

Dive into details for American Gods season 2 with stars Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon), Pablo Schrieber (Mad Sweeney) and Yetide Badaki (Bilquis). Stop by Main Stage 1-D on Friday from 6-7 p.m. to get a taste of what's coming for the Starz original series.

CATCH MARVEL'S RUNAWAYS

Stick around after the American Gods panel in Main Stage 1-D for Hulu and Marvel’s The Runaways from 7:45-9:15 p.m.  Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb will be there along with the cast and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage to give fans a look at exclusive footage and introduce the new Runaways to NYCC and the world. Definitely a must-see for Marvel fans!

MAKE YOURS MARVEL AND ABC'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel moves to The Theater at Madison Square Garden for the Marvel and ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel Saturday afternoon from 2 - 3:15 p.m. Jeff Loeb is back along with the entire cast and executive producers for a panel, Q & A, and new exclusive footage. Marvel promises this panel will be "action-packed", so get ready for some surprises, Marvel TV fans.

 

THE MAGICIANS DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF MAGIC

The Magicians will appear at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, October 7th from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM to reassure us all that magic isn't completely gone (at least, we hope so!). Stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, and executive producers, Sera Gamble and John McNamara promise a never-before-seen look at Season 3 and the quest to bring magic back to the world; both ours and Fillory.

DISCOVER STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

If The Magicians isn't your thing, head to The Theater at Madison Square Garden for the panel on CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery from 3:45 - 4:45 p.m. and join the cast and creators of the new Star Trek show Discovery. Panelists have not been announced at this time, but we're thinking you'll see some of your favorites.

THE PUNISHER PUMMELS NYCC

You may spend all afternoon in The Theater at Madison Square Garden because Netflix and Marvel’s The Punisher panel starts right after Star Trek: Discovery and runs from 5:15-6:15 p.m. The Punisher himself Jon Bernthal and the cast will unveil an exclusive first look at the upcoming season. Jeph Loeb will also moderate the Q&A, so bring your Punisher questions and enjoy!

 

THE WALKING DEAD EAT UP SATURDAY NIGHT

AMC’s The Walking Dead takes over The Theater at Madison Square Garden from 7:45-8:45 p.m. but we don't know much. Here's what we know currently: the cast and executive producers will discuss the season 7 finale and share a sneak peek into season 8. You know there will be a few shocks, so shamble on by.

FIND THE TRUTH WITH FOX'S EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT THE X-FILES SEASON 11

On October 8, from 1-2 p.m, search out this sneaky panel at the FOX! Main Stage and be gifted with a mysterious peek at the eleventh season of The X-Files with Chris Carter, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and Mitch Pileggi in attendance. The X-Files' 10-episode season invades the airwaves in January 2018.

THE GIFTED'S CREATIVE POSSE SUMMONS YOUR PRESENCE

Get a free look at the second episode of Fox Television and Marvel's new mutants on the run adventure series on Sunday, October 8 from 2:45-3:45 p.m. and see if this X-verse series has the stamina to make a successful run on the small screen.  This super-sized panel will take place at the Fox! Main Stage and will be headed up by the main cast and executive-producers Matt Nix, Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and Len Wiseman. The Gifted premieres on October 2.

CASTLE ROCK PANEL PLUNGES INTO THE KING MULTIVERSE

Sunday is shaping up to be a packed day of panels and Q&A discussions, especially for Warner Bros.Television, so allocate your time wisely.  Hailing from the twisted psyche of Stephen King and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Castle Rock premieres on Hulu in 2018 and explores the interlaced mythologies and themes of King's classic works. It stars André Holland (Moonlight), Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Jane Levy (Suburgatory). and Sissy Spacek (Carrie). Join the creators and stars at the Hammerstein Ballroom for an exclusive video presentation and stirring Q&A session from 3:00-3:40 p.m.

GOTHAM SEASON 4 GRABS THE SPOTLIGHT

Warner Bros. keeps the Sunday party rolling from 3:40-4:40 p.m. with an exclusive video presentation for Season 4, as the smoke clears after the obliteration of the Court of Owls and residual effects of the Tetch virus crushing Gotham, Ra’s al Ghul rises and Bruce Wayne chases his dark destiny. Gotham's panel includes an intense Q&A hour with series producers and stars sure to include some intriguing show secrets. Gotham's chaotic new season debuts Thursdays, September 21 on Fox.

THE EXORCIST POSSESSES YOUR SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Here's Fox's devilish panel for The Exorcist's second season in Room 1A10 from 4-5 p.m., featuring a loaded panel consisting of stars Ben Daniels (Father Marcus), Alfonso Herrera (Father Tomas), and Kurt Egyiawan (Father Bennett), joined by newcomers John Cho (“Andrew Kim”) and Zuleikha Robinson (“Mouse”) alongside executive producer Jeremy Slater and showrunner Sean Crouch. An extended scene from the new third episode will be shared with some spirited BTS details on the upcoming sophomore season that launches Friday, September 29.

MARVEL'S CLOAK & DAGGER COMES TO PLAY

Dive into Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger by visiting the Freeform activation zone located right across from the Javits Center. The Freeform activation zone is open Oct. 5th - 8th and located at the corner of 11th and 37th street.
