The Thing is coming! The prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 horror flick is heading to theaters, and it's creepier than ever. Universal has released a new TV spot for the film that's dominated by special effects ... and lots of paranoia.
What's "The Thing" and how the heck does it survive inside an ice block? That's the question the crew of this unfortunate expedition have to ask themselves. The movie takes place in Antarctica at an isolated outpost that's home to scientists and researchers who discover a deadly, shapeshifting creature.
Unlike the first trailer for The Thing, the TV spot only shows a couple of the people who get attacked, instead of the whole roster. We'd love a trailer that doesn't reveal any of the victims ... but we digress. They've got to show off the CGI effects somehow.
Speaking of the team, Mary Elizabeth Winstead leads the group as a paleontologist named Kate Lloyd who visits the region to get the scoop on their new "find." She's joined by Joel Edgerton (Warrior), who plays Carter, a pilot who has an eerie Kurt Russell vibe. If his hair were longer he'd be a spitting image!
Overall, The Thing looks like it can stand on its own in the thriller department. But do you think it can live up to its famous name?
The Thing hits theaters Oct. 14.
