No speedster villain for Season 4 of The Flash

One of the biggest complaints about The Flash in recent years has been that each season has pitted Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) against a villain with the same speedy powers. Not only that, but the show currently boasts three speedster heroes: Flash, Kid Flash and Jesse Quick.

If you think there are way too many speedsters on the show, the good news is that executive producer Andew Kreisberg has confirmed during this weekend's PaleyFest panel for Arrow, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash on Saturday (via EW) that "Next season we're not going to have a speedster [as the villain]."

Yay! After facing off against Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash in the first season, Hunter Zolomon/Zoom in Season 2 and now Savitar this year, the Fastest Man Alive will finally go toe-to-toe with a different kind of Big Bad.

But who? That's the million-dollar question.

Sadly, Kreisberg remained mum on the subject, but I'm looking forward to see which DC villain will make life miserable for Team Flash in Season 4. There are still a few untapped baddies from the Scarlet Speedster's gallery of rogues left; or they may actually look to someone who isn't a Flash villain, per se. Either way, this is actually a step in the right direction for a series currently suffering from Speedster-fatigue.

As for this season's mysterious baddie Savitar, Kreisberg teased the real identity of the super powerful speedster:

“With Savitar, we know who he is under there. We've been planning this for a while and we’re really excited about it. Episode 18 has Abra Kadabra, who is also a villain from the future. He knows who Savitar is and comes with a moral conundrum: Do Barry and the team let Abra Kadabra go in order to get Savitar's identity? It's a great mortality play. Iris and Barry have a great scene, 'Can you be a hero if you do one bad thing?'"

Kreisberg added that in order to get more info on Savitar, Barry will travel to the future (here we go again. Le sigh) in Episode 19, titled "The Once and Future Flash" (which is the title of a 1993 comic book issue): "Barry decides that the only way he can find out what he needs to know is in the future."

There you have it. Which DC comic book villain would you like to see as the main threat for Team Flash in Season 4?
