Ridley Scott and company have succeeded in making us so hungry for Prometheus that we pounce on any new bit of information about the film we can possibly find. Over the weekend, we got not one new piece of Prometheus fun, but two: a new image of Noomi Rapace alone in a creepy alien craft, and a promise from co-writer Damon Lindelof that the film will be "epic in scope."
If you're a fan of the original Alien, you'll note the familiar design style of the dark corridor Rapace is nervously moving through. It's got much the same look as the crashed alien craft from the original film, but that's not the real reason to be fascinated by this image. Look over Rapace's shoulder, at those two figures standing in the dark.
Remember the fabled space jockey? Well, it looks like two of those things are standing right behind her. Or at least their suits of bio-armor are standing back there. We're hearing that for the purposes of Prometheus, these creatures will be known as Engineers, though of course we have no clue yet as to their purpose or what threat they pose (judging by this photo, though, the threat is pretty significant).
Accompanying the release of this tantalizing new image by the L.A. Times was a brief interview with Lindelof, who basically summed up the image with a comment on the visual style he and Scott concocted for the flick.
"We wanted to make the movie feel big by having the characters be small in big spaces," he said. "That connected to the larger themes we were talking about—that we're all just these little gnats crawling around on our little planet."
Big themes, epic scale and loads of frustrated anticipation from all of us. But if these images are any indication, Prometheus will be well worth the wait.
