November 17 in Sci-Fi History: That Star Wars Holiday Special

Look, you knew this was coming, everyone talks about it as the holidays approach. It was on this day in 1978 that the Star Wars Holiday Special premiered on CBS.

It can be pretty hard to find (George Lucas despises it with the power of a thousand suns), but it not only stars the original cast but also Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Harvey Korman, and Jefferson Starship.

It's one of those things that people somewhat hate to love. We think it should be shown in theaters this time of year.

Anyway. Sci-fi birthdays today include Danny DeVito, born on this day in 1944 in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

And Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was born on this day in 1958 in Lombard, Illinois.

Tomorrow: Alan Moore.
