On this day in 1950 in Tenafly, New Jersey, Ed Harris was born. He would go on to star in The Abyss (1989), which is a great movie. Period.

Harris was nominated for Academy Awards for Apollo 13 (1995) and The Truman Show (1998).

He's also in GeoStorm (2017), which … well, it's really something. And the list goes on: Gravity (2013), Snowpiercer (2013) – Ed Harris is the real deal.

Speaking of Gravity, director Alfonso Cuaron was born on this day in 1961 in Mexico City. Cuaron boasts some pretty impressive sci-fi and fantasy credits. After his breakout hit Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001), Cuaron was hired to direct what might be the best Harry Potter movie, the third installment: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).

He also directed Children of Men (2006). Wow, it's amazing.

And rounding out today's birthdays, True Blood's Ryan Kwanten was born on this day in 1976 in Sydney, Australia.

Tomorrow: Don Cheadle Wednesday.
