November 6 in Sci-Fi History: Thandie, Sally, Emma and Ethan

Contributed by

Three pretty sizable birthdays on this day in sci-fi history. Let's start with the actress who's given what's arguably the greatest performance we've seen on TV in a long time, Thandie Newton.

Born in London in 1972, Newton has played big roles like Yvette the Maid in Interview With the Vampire (1994), the title role in Beloved (1998), Dame Vaako in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), and Laura Wilson in 2012 (2009). She’s going to be in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and … she's Maeve. Maeve!

Today is also the birthday of Sally Field, who was born on this day in 1946 in Pasadena. Look, we know she was Aunt May in the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, but mainly? She was The Flying Nun (1967-1970).

Oh, speaking of the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, today is also the birthday of Emma Stone, born on this day in 1988. Next year we'll be seeing her as Cruella de Vil in Cruella.

And finally, today is also the birthday of Ethan Hawke, born on this day in 1970 in Austin, Texas. He was in Gattaca (1997), Daybreakers (2009), Sinister (2012), The Purge (2013), Predestination (2014), and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) . But best of all, he was in Explorers (1985).

Tomorrow: In her satin tights, fighting for our rights.
