Starz has released a new clip from the third episode of Ron D. Moore’s time-travel series Outlander, featuring a key scene for Season 3.

WARNING: Spoilers below.

The sneak peek sees a now-grown-up Lord John Grey (David Berry) arriving as the new governor of Ardsmuir Prison, where Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), aka Red Jamie, is now imprisoned and in chains (see Exhibit A below). Lord John is warned about Jamie that: “Those at Prestonpans would swear he's the devil himself” by an officer who I assume to be Harry Quarry (the former governor of Ardsmuir), unless they’re not using the book character in the series.

As some of you will recall, the character of Lord John Grey (be aware there are spoilers in that link) was first introduced as a 16-year-old named William Grey (Oscar Kennedy) in the Season 2 episode “Je Suis Prest.” It was thanks to a debt of honor John owed Jamie that this one was spared by Lord Melton, John’s older brother Hal (Sam Hoare), after the Battle of Culloden in the Season 3 premiere, “The Battle Joined.”

The scene you’ll see below is important because this is the first time Lord John Grey sets eyes on Jamie Fraser since the Rising, Open eye Show Spoiler and where initial hatred will slowly turn into a lifelong (and complicated) friendship between the two men.

Check out the sneak peek (I’ve also included a recent trailer offering a look at the rest of Season 3), and let us know if you’re looking forward to the next Outlander episode, “All Debts Paid,” on Sept. 24.
