The upcoming shared cinematic universe based on old Hasbro toys has taken a step forward today, with Paramount confirming three new release dates to SYFY Wire. Two of them relate to that new series, and while the third one is unconnected, it's still exciting all the same.
A new film based on the G.I. Joe line of toys has been announced for March 27, 2020. We've seen two films based on the classic army toys in the past few years, with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in 2009, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013. So far this new film only bears the name G.I. Joe, and it is unknown whether the film will continue the events of the previous films or reboot the whole thing completely. It will be directed by D.J. Caruso, the man behind XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
The second film to receive a date today is a film based on another Hasbro toy line, Micronauts. The tiny protagonists from an alternate (and very small) dimension will be hitting screens in the appropriately titled Micronauts, and will open on October 16, 2020. While the original plan for these properties was to tie them in to Paramount's successful Transformers line of films, we have no further details as to whether or not this is the case. Previously announced properties that could join the line (M.A.S.K., ROM, and Visionaries) have yet to gain any further momentum.
The third film from Paramount to get a date to the dance is based on the classic paper and dice basement game Dungeons and Dragons. The film will arrive on July 23rd, 2021, and will not be a continuation of the 2000 film that bears the the same name. As of now, director Rob Letterman is still attached (the Jack Black Gulliver's Travels film) as well as Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort.
We'll have more on these projects as they move further along. Are you excited about one, or perhaps all of them? Let us know in the comments!
