It’s been a while since we heard anything new about the Blumhouse horror flick Viral, and though the film will now be skipping a major theatrical run, the latest trailer looks creepy enough to tingle spines on VOD.
Entertainment Weekly has debuted a fresh trailer from the sci-fi horror flick, described as a micro-budget scarefest in the same vein as The Purge and Paranormal Activity. The story focuses on two sisters, Emma (Sofia Black D’Elia) and Stacey (Analeigh Tipton), as their suburban life is thrown into chaos when a parasitic virus starts up a terrifying outbreak. The teens are soon thrust into a dangerous game of survival after their town is quarantined and the infected begin to increase.
The film was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Paranormal Activity 3), from a script by Barbara Marshall and Christopher Landon. The film was originally supposed to have a theatrical run earlier this year, but Blumouse Productions pulled the plug and is instead opting to test the VOD/digital HD waters with the project (along with a limited theatrical opening in a few big horror markets).
Viral hits select theaters and digital HD on July 29 and arrives on DVD/VOD Aug. 2.
