As if the nerdy corners of the internet weren’t already in a virtual riot with the news of Quentin Tarantino pitching a Star Trek movie broke, the actor behind one of the franchise’s most treasured leaders isn’t counting himself out of the casting race.

If Tarantino’s R-rated Trek ever sees the light of day, Patrick Stewart and Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise could come along for the ride. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the Dubai International Film Festival, Stewart bandied around the idea of returning under Tarantino’s direction.

While the idea of returning as The Next Generation leader seemed far-fetched to the actor, he admitted that “there are ways in which something like that might come about.” Most of these ways are dependent on Tarantino, of whom Stewart is a big fan.

“One of my dreams is to work with Tarantino,” Stewart said, “I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr. Tarantino, I would embrace it."

While there hasn’t even been an official announcement that this sci-fi foray is happening even for QT, the buzz around the film has spread to the very top of the industry. Stewart’s excitement for the film, even without his involvement, has been infecting fandom far and wide, even if the auteur's over-the-top filmmaking would be a bit disruptive to the franchise’s previous cinematic offerings.
