It might not be connected to the original Ghostbusters films, but Paul Feig’s female-centric reboot will apparently be making some heavy nods to what came before.
The director has confirmed that Sigourney Weaver will have a cameo role in the new film, joining original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd in cameo roles. It’s also being reported that original secretary Annie Potts will have a small role. If you’ll remember, Weaver played Dana "There is no Dana, only Zuul!" Barrett in the original films.
Though all these cameo reports have broken well before the film’s 2016 release date, Feig said he wanted to bite the bullet and reveal the news himself before paparazzi and photographers ruined the surprise. We dig Feig and the cast he’s put together, but all these cameos are starting to add up. Here’s hoping these winks to the original don’t prove to be a distraction from the new story he’s trying to tell.
Check out Feig’s confirmation below:
Feig’s new Ghostbusters stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon (plus a ton of cameos, apparently). It’s set to open July 15, 2016.
