In a little more than two weeks, Mockingjay Part 1 -- the first of two films adapting Suzanne Collins' final Hunger Games novel -- will hit theaters, and it's already poised to be a massive hit. Advance ticket sales for the film have broken records, and given how dominant Catching Fire was at the box office in 2013, it's not hard to imagine Mockingjay Part 1 emerging as the highest-grossing film of 2014, even against stiff competition like Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
The trailers for the film, focusing largely on Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) final reluctant struggle against the Capitol on behalf of the rebellious District 13, have steadily ramped up our anticipation, raising the tension and the stakes. Now we've got our first clip. It's brief, and it's subdued compared to some of the more fiery moments the trailers have brought us, but it does give more insight into Katniss' emotional struggle as she gets her first glimpse at what's become of Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Check it out:
We knew at the end of Catching Fire that Peeta faced an uncertain fate, and now he seems to be living comfortably among the Capitol elite. Knowing what we know about President Snow's (Donald Sutherland) scheming, though, it's possible he's either doing so reluctantly or has simply been rendered unaware of what's really going on. We'll have to keep watching to find out.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 hits theaters on Nov. 21. Check out several new images from the film featuring Lawrence, Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Liam Hemsworth and more in the gallery below.
