Love it or hate it, Saturday Night Live usually does a solid job of scoring topical hosts for the late-night sketch show — and there’s nobody more topical than Deadpool at the moment, right?
A new petition urging NBC to book Deadpool to host the series has hit more than 26,000 signatures, and it’ll probably keep climbing as media attention grows. To be clear, the petition is asking for the fictional character Deadpool to host the show — meaning they want Ryan Reynolds to do the entire show in costume and in character — which could make for an insanely weird, meta episode if the network actually makes an effort to broker the deal.
Here’s the pitch, via the Change.org petition:
How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?! I have not watched a full episode of SNL in years because I just haven't been able to stomach an entire episode, but having Deadpool host, star, and be all over the episode would get the DVR set so I can watch it again and again!!! Not to mention, depending on the musical guest, how awesome would it be to have some Deadpool interpretive dancing while the musical guest was playing? There's unlimited possibilities!!!
This could be ... interesting. Deadpool has proven to be a massive draw, and you’d think NBC would be open to working something out (Reynolds has previously hosted the show before, you know, and it’d certainly bring some mega-buzz to the decades-old series). But, on the flip side, it would also go a bit outside the format of the show itself.
Would you like to see Deadpool give his own version of a SNL monologue?
