Peyton List cast as the latest version of Gotham's Poison Ivy, coming 2018

It seems Ivy Pepper just can't "leaf" Batman's city alone, as the character is returning to Gotham in early 2018, Fox announced. She will be played by Peyton List (Frequency, Colony, Mad Men, The Flash, The Tomorrow People), who will appear as a recurring guest star. In other words, Bruce better get ready to prune some weeds.

“In the continuing evolution of Poison Ivy's origin story, Ivy Pepper has been transformed once again, taking another step toward becoming the Ivy we know from the comics," the producers said. "Dangerous. A live wire of crazy energy. She'll set her sights on Gotham, intent on making the city her own green paradise.”

List will be the third actress to portray Pepper after Clare Foley and Maggie Geha. The character's development over the last few seasons has been a bit muddled, as she started out as a young girl (Foley) and then aged up into her 20s (Geha) by the touch of Marv, a croney of Fish Mooney.

Perhaps List will usher in a more stable era for the plant-based seductress who uses her talent for chemistry to create mind-altering concoctions. Nevertheless, it seems the show is somewhat imitating the comics unintentionally, as Ivy went through several iterations in the Pre- and Post-Crisis comics under the names Dr. Lillian Rose and Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley.

At least we'll get to spend more "thyme" with her.

This announcement comes in the wake of the introduction of another classic Batman villain, Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell), in a recent episode of Season 4
