Here's what finally tipped the scales to convince me to buy a turntable system to spin all the new premium vinyls available for some of my favorite film scores! I Am Shark is pressing 500 copies of these beautiful Star Wars: The Force Awakens soundtrack LP sets featuring four colorful collectible covers (Rey, Poe, Phasma, Finn & Kylo) with original album art and gatefold image by UK illustrator Dan Mumford.
This striking collector's edition for John Williams' Academy Award-nominated score went up for pre-order last Friday for $39.99 each, and two of the versions are already sold out (Finn & Kylo, Rey). Each of these 180-gram collector's vinyl sets are officially licensed via Disney Music Group and Lucasfilm LTD and should ship around March 24.
Here's the official description from I Am Shark:
I Am Shark is beyond ecstatic to announce the 2xLP collector's edition release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Music composed by the legendary John Williams, whose iconic sounds and themes create an entire world unto themselves in the Star Wars Universe. An array of stunning artwork accompanies this record from the UK's Dan Mumford, presented in four different collectable covers that share an inner gatefold piece.
The bombastic score was recorded over 12 sessions during a five-month period in 2015 and is the first of the Star Wars films to feature a 90-piece freelance orchestra. The theme for Snoke was recorded by a 24-voice men's chorus. Special guest conductor Gustavo Dudamel conducted the opening and end title music for the film at Williams' request.
