Netflix is gearing up for the premiere of Luke Cage later this month, and the streaming service has dropped a butt-kicking new clip from the Marvel series.
The footage focuses on Luke (Mike Colter) as he walks in on a few thugs shaking down a small business in Harlem. Not surprisingly, the future Hero For Hire is not inclined to let this slide. The scene does a good job of showing off Luke’s powers while also keeping them grounded, much like what we saw from the character on Jessica Jones. Of course, in case you needed a reminder that he’s bulletproof, they also take care of that here.
It’s no real surprise, but the series is fantastic. The critical response since the press embargo lifted has been almost universally positive this week, and having seen the first few episodes, I can attest to the quality. This is unlike any other Marvel series, in the best possible way. It’s telling the story of a tight-knit community and how greed and corruption can rip it apart. It’s also proving to be one heck of a great lens to filter a story of race in America through, with just enough superhero punching to keep it balanced.
Luke Cage drops on Netflix Sept. 30.
