Spoiler Alert: Either you’ve already seen the most recent episode of Killjoys, or you’re here to find out what happened. If neither of those things is true, go watch the episode and come back. I can wait.
It's all fun and games until someone kills a Niner, right?
It took a while, but John Jaqobis is on the hook for Delle Seyah Kendry's murder (after all, if she had died, it would have been murder no matter how awful she is) and his chickens are coming back to roost in the form of a Level Five black warrant. The fact that the warrant was ordered by the very person who's supposed to be dead is the height of irony.
It's easy to get wrapped up in action on a sci-fi series and miss the human element and this episode is a great example of what makes Killjoys work. Whether it's a fight in a bar, a fight to the death, or the battle against a killer parasitic race, it all comes down to relationships. In this episode, it's all about John and Dutch.
If there's a bright side, now that the truth is out, Team AwesomeForce can hit it square on. But that means John and Dutch need to deal with a few things.
Talking about their feelings
Johnny's finally a level 5 now, but it comes with a slap to the head when he learns Dutch blocked previous attempts even if Turin thought it was time. Which is definitely a conversation that needs having. Additionally, Dutch is reallllly not happy with Johnny for not telling her about Delle Seyah Kendry. Granted, John's not sorry for killing her, which is a side of John we haven't seen yet. Not that anyone blames him. Revenge is a motive and a fair one sometimes.
That said, it's not like these two are great about talking about their feelings and both of them are righteously pissed at the other, so it takes chains and Truth Jac to get them talking. Once they get started, though, it's pretty real talk. John has some great points. She does look to him to keep her human and she does everything to protect him whether he thinks he needs protection or not.
Dutch also resents John for both leaving and coming back (talk about a no-win situation). They definitely talk that out, but they both have issues that need resolving; she doesn't want to be like Khylen and he deserved vengeance. And they definitely get nasty with each other for a while there, but there's also the making up. It's what people who love each other go through because, in the end, it's all about real talk and real support.
Warlord days and love
I will love Pree forever; bald, blonde, bartender or warlord. Prima Dezz is a constant source of wonder and amazement. Need a fighting force that includes the best warriors in the Universe, no sweat, Pree knows a guy. Speaking of which, how did they grow his hair out so fast?
It also says a lot about Pree that he's willing to go to Ohron to recruit the Farren when he knows it may mean his life. Also, the fact that Pree led the Farren and then gave it up and faked his own death so Lachlan could become leader is another example of what he'll do for others.
What is it about people leaving people "for their own good" around here? John and Pree have a habit of doing that, y'notice?
One of the best things about Pree and Lachlan's airing out is that it takes place in a big room of warriors. Within the Farren, this is just a conversation. It's this entire talk about feelings and love and no one blinks. Even when the kissing starts. How refreshing. Granted, Lachlan does start out wanting Pree dead for leaving but Dutch is able to win Lachlan over and save Pree in the process.
I'm loving the shift this year of D'avin being the one who interacts with everyone. Between the fact finding mission with Garet and the whole thing with Zeph, I was laughing my ass off because he's an excellent straight man and he also plays the snarky muscle really well. Garet and D'avin bonding over John and Pree was delightful. And I appreciate that, while Garet is trying to work on his anger issues, he'll still bounce a guy on his head if it "helps."
Guinea bitch D'av works with Zeph to connect to the Hullen to find Delle Seyah Kendry. The dynamic with these two is fun, especially with Zeph's literal sense of things. Kelly McCormack is kinda awesome.
Of course, I do have some concerns/questions about Zeph. First of all, I want to know who's blood she mixed with the green to get the remnant to open and, secondly, the smile on her face when she opens it is more than a triumphant one. Something else is there ...
When she first showed up, I thought Banyon was Hullen, but now I'm not so sure. The RAC is infested, but is she? Or is she just a by-the-numbers gal sent to clean up Turin's mess? I'll be keeping an eye on her, but she may be working for the good guys.
Aneela and Delle Seyah Kendry.
Oh, these two. It's been so interesting seeing Delle Seyah Kendry come up against someone who has more power than she does. She's alternately awed and haughty; getting Hullen lessons from Aneela and then being upset that Aneela canceled the warrant on John.
Gander knows Aneela, and his comment seems like a pretty dead on warning. "Aneela always tired of her toys. And then she breaks them."
Dreamwalkers in Green
That moment when Aneela could see D'avin on his little dream walk about was intense, as was his "You're the same. You're exactly the same". It's also interesting that she can push him out of the green and his connection.
"No kill shots till we sort this out." - Dutch, ever the pragmatist.
"Did we break up back there? I feel like we broke up."
"You may be level 5, but I trained for 6."
"As much as I love being your guinea bitch, Zeph, me and my nipples are off limits until you can do some more research."
"Hey buddy, how ya feelin'?" "Upsidedowny." - I lolled. For real.
Pree is so fantastic. "Let's see if he survives basic training.". Poor Garet, he's got work to do!
Dutch knows now that Aneela's coming and that Delle Seyah is with her and she's decided to let them do just that so she can focus on the other part of the fight. Time to take their own back. RAC by RAC. Maybe Banyon is the first step. We'll see, won't we?
That'll do it for me, campers. See you next week?
