The final chapter of The Hunger Games begins here, and Katniss is going to war.
This time three years ago, you would be forgiven for having never heard of Suzanne Collins' bestselling dystopian novels about a young girl who, after a moment of self-sacrifice, enters a fight-to-the-death competition and eventually becomes a national symbol of rebellion. Now, though, The Hunger Games saga is a pop-culture phenomenon that's grown far beyond its young adult roots, and the third film based on the series -- Mockingjay Part 1 -- is pretty much guaranteed to be one of the year's biggest movies.
In the wake of the events of Catching Fire, the Hunger Games are in tatters and the Capitol of Panem is in damage-control mode, while Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is adjusting to a new life inside a rebellion led by President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore). Her friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and mentor Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) are by her side, but Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) remains a Capitol captive, a puppet to President Snow (Donald Sutherland). The games are over, there's nothing left but fighting, and as Katniss' battle begins, her courage will change Panem forever.
Sadly, we'll have to wait until 2015 to see how the entire saga really wraps up in Mockingjay Part 2, and we don't yet know where Part 1 will leave us hanging, but if this trailer is any indication, we're in for plenty of action, drama and heartbreak. Check it out.
Mockingjay Part 1 also stars Natalie Dormer, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. It hits theaters Nov. 21.
