Just two days ago, Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit Blu-ray, and now we're already talking about the next chapter in the Star Wars saga. Rogue One will tell the story of what happens between Episodes III and IV of the main series, and will follow a ragtag group of warriors as they attempt to steal the plans for the first Death Star and discover its weaknesses.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and led by Felicity Jones (as a character whose name I'm not sure I can spell just yet), this is the first film in the Star Wars franchise that doesn't seem to directly follow a Skywalker. This isn't about Jedi. This isn't about a new hope. This is about fighting, and Jones' character seems to embody that. The first half of the trailer is all about the crimes she's committed, the battles she's fought and the hard life she's led. This isn't some lightsaber-wielding enigma. This is a badass woman looking to do some damage, and it only gets more interesting from there. Check it out:
I don't know about you, but I almost squealed with delight when it was revealed that Mon Mothma has returned to lead the Rebellion, creating a great link between the trilogies. I love Jones' defiant stare. I love Forest Whitaker's gruff mentorship. I love Rebels running in the shadow of AT-ATs. This is a side of Star Wars we've never seen, and I can't wait to see the rest of it.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives Dec. 16. What did you think of the trailer?
