Risky Business star and sex icon Rebecca De Mornay has been cast in the role of Mother in the new remake of the demented 1980 Troma slasher classic Mother's Day, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Darren Lynn Bousman, director of Saw II through IV and Repo! The Genetic Opera will helm the remake, which will be scripted by Scott Milam. Troma head Lloyd Kaufman will executive produce, as will his brother Charles Kaufman, who co-wrote the original with Warren Leight and directed.
The original is noteworthy among early 1980s slasher movies, in that the sociopathic behavior of the antagonists was given a semi-SF context through he implication of Lovecaraftian genetic atavisms being at play. It is also fondly remembered for the earnest fights between Mother's two murderous sons over which was better: punk or disco.
Genre stalwarts Jaime King and Shawn Ashmore will be among the cast of the new Mother's Day. Brett Ratner and Jay Stern of Rat Entertainment will produce.
