Sure, Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy might be a bit on the bloated side, but it still comes from one heck of a respected legacy via the seminal Lord of the Rings films.
With The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies opening in a few weeks, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer looking back on the legacy of both the Hobbit franchise and the Lord of the Rings films that spawned it.
The trailer includes key moments from both franchises, and honestly, it kind of makes us jones for the good ol’ days when Frodo and the Fellowship were trekking to Mordor. The Hobbit trilogy has been a fun spectacle, but Tolkien’s version of The Hobbit was never conceived to be an epic to rival Lord of the Rings. It’s a smaller story, and that’s OK, but that seems to have gotten lost in the need to go bigger to create something that can stand toe to toe with the epic clashes in Lord of the Rings. That parity has never been more apparent than here, where both franchises crash together in a mishmash of epic-ness.
