The writer/director of Star Wars: Episode VIII has been waiting for this moment.
After Disney and Lucasfilm announced yesterday that the official title of the eighth installment in the Skywalker saga was going to be The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson went on Instagram to post this:
" title="<--social-media-->" class="pub_blog_post-social drupal-content" data-social-option="in" data-social-value="https://www.instagram.com/p/BPqBSPZBRoo/">
That's a photo from the editing suite where he's working, and that shot you see is the very beginning of the movie's opening crawl. It seems Johnson was not allowed to put the title into the shot until it was officially unveiled by the studio, due to secrecy concerns.
But now that the secret is out, Johnson is free to complete that crawl ... and don't you wish he let us see even just a little of the first sentence? Fat chance of that happening, son.
But still, the title looks good nestled there under the "Episode VIII" text, and we only have 11 months or so before we learn what the rest of it will say. Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi opens on December 15, 2017.
