It is a truth universally acknowledged — Robert Downey Jr. can do anything. He can build a super-suit in a cave from a box of scraps, and he can also talk to animals. Apparently, his talents extend to being able to attract a truly awe-inspiring cast of actors to join him on his adventures.
The man behind Tony Stark will soon play the lead in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, a new adaptation of the 1920s children books by Hugh Lofting. The film is being directed by Stephen Gaghan, and Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, and Jim Broadbent have already been announced as playing live-action characters. Since the famous Dr. Dolittle can speak with animals, the real question is who will voice the menagerie of creatures the good doctor will come across?
Though we've heard some of the featured names mentioned already, Downey Jr. took to Twitter today to announce the full cast... and it boasts enough talent to fill 100 Hulkbusters.
Aside from the previously announced Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Selena Gomez, and Tom Holland, the film will also feature Octavia Spencer, Marion Cotillard, Craig Robinson, Frances De La Tour, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, John Cena, and Carmen Ejogo.
So... Iron Man is going on a voyage with Lord Voldemort, Talia al Ghul, Madame Maxime, Peter Parker, the President of MACUSA, Doug Judy, Elliot Alderson, Mrs. Potts, Ferdinand, Dinesh Chugtai, and NASA's Dorothy Vaughan? They officially have our interest.
The tweeted image also provides a look at what animals the actors will be playing — Spencer will be a duck named Dab Dab, while Fiennes will be a Tiger named Barry. If this cast is proving as irresistible to you as it is to us, be sure to get ready to take this Voyage with Downey Jr. and company on April 12, 2019.
