If you've been getting excited about X-Men: First Class actor Michael Fassbender stepping into the role of RoboCop ever since you heard the buzz about Jose Padilha's remake casting, calm down. Because Padilha says that buzz was all a big misunderstanding.
Evidently, a journalist pushed and pushed and pushed the director until he finally admitted that Fassbender wouldn't be such a bad idea, but there was nothing more to it than that.
According to an interview with IFC:
[the interviewer] asked me 'Who is going to be RoboCop?' I said, 'I don't know, I'm not there yet.' 'Who is going to be RoboCop?' 'I don't know!' So he says, "How about Fassbender?" I said, 'I think he's great.' That was it
So not only isn't Padilha advocating for Fassbender to take over the role, he wasn't even the one who brought up the actor's name!
Guess we shouldn't believe everything we read online. But then, you already knew that, didn't you?
