Last we heard, CBS is moving full steam ahead with plans for a Supergirl series — and now another name has joined the list of potential actresses vying to play Kara Zor-El.
British tabloid The Sun is reporting Gemma Atkinson (Casualty) has auditioned for the role and is currently “waiting to hear” whether she got the gig. She’d be a relative newcomer for U.S. audiences, though the 30-year-old has been a working actress in the U.K. for the better part of a decade. She's also a blond bombshell, which is a good fit for the look.
Considering that the network seems relatively high on the prospects of cashing in on the superhero craze, we’d think some type of casting news should hit soon. The project is definitely a priority. With Atkinson’s name popping up so late in the game, that could mean she’s definitely on the short list — or is at least a new addition in the 11th hour.
A far as potential contenders are concerned, she joins Claire Holt (The Originals) in the rumor mill, though recent buzz indicates Holt might not be getting the gig due to other commitments. So that could technically make Atkinson the frontrunner at this point — especially since there aren’t really any other names out there in the ether.
Do you think Atkinson would be a good choice, or would you prefer one of our other casting recommendations?
