Director Tim Miller’s unexpected departure from the Deadpool sequel following a tiff with star Ryan Reynolds may have created a bit of a meltdown on the wonderful world of the Internet, but it looks like it didn’t even make a dent in 20th Century Fox’s plans for the X-Men spinoff. Not at all!
In fact, according to a new report over at The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is already putting the wheels in motion for a third movie starring Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth. The site even claims (according to their sources) that Fox has so much faith in the franchise, they’re already prepping to go on the hunt to snag themselves a director for Deadpool 3 (while the studio is currently wooing John Wick director David Leitch to come on board Deadpool 2) and that the storyline for said third film will include another X-Men team: the Cable-led X-Force.
That bit is interesting because an X-Force movie has been in active development at Fox for a couple of months ever since Ryan Reynolds decided to make it a top priority. The superhero film had been stuck in development hell since 2013; until the R-rated, $58 million budget Deadpool took home a whopping $782 million, proving to everyone that dark, R-rated comic book movies could strike a chord with moviegoers (and make tons of money) when they’re done right.
Of course, none of this has been made official yet, so please remember to take it with a grain/pinch of salt, m’kay? Now that’s out of the way, what do you think of the possibilities of Deadpool 3 involving X-Force?
