Rumor of the day: Ghostbusters 3 directors 'walking away' from the sequel

For a short while there, some buzzy comedy directors were lined up to take over Ghostbusters 3 -- but now it sounds like the long-delayed project might be leaderless once again.

Just a few weeks after Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) were linked to the project, it’s now being reported the duo are “walking away” to keep their options open. As to what, exactly, that means? We don't know. Yet.

Variety reporter Jeff Sneider dropped the scoop, and if it turns out to be true, it’s just the latest in a long line of setbacks for the decades-stalled film. At this point, you have to wonder if we might be better off to just let this one go and leave well enough alone with the franchise.

Hearing LORD & MILLER ended up walking away from GHOSTBUSTERS 3 job. They were the studio's choice but wanted to keep their options open...

Lord and Miller are some funny guys, and we were admittedly curious to see what they could’ve done with the concept. Now it's back to the drawing board.

What do you think? Who would you like to see step in and take over? Should this movie even happen at all?
