We still don’t know much about the plot of Disney’s Han Solo spinoff film, but it sounds like it’ll be bringing back at least one fan-favorite pal from his early days.
The Wrap reports the studio is currently working to cast a young Land Calirssian to co-star in the Han Solo prequel film, under the code name “Chance” (perhaps a reference to their history as gambling buddies). The character was, of course, played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He’s also recently reprised the role via voice work on Star Wars Rebels.
The original trilogy established that Han and Lando had known one another for quite some time (Lando was the original owner of the Millennium Falcon) — so fitting him into a prequel film certainly makes some narrative sense. They’re going to need to pad out the supporting cast somehow, and Lando is a no-brainer. But, the studio has yet to confirm the casting efforts, so we’re leaving this one is rumor territory for the moment.
Whoever the studio signs to join Alden Ehrenreich, there will certainly be some big shoes to fill. The prequel film is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Jump Street, The LEGO Movie), and if anyone can pull off the snarky scoundrel style, it’s them.
The Han Solo solo film (heehee) is penciled in for May 25, 2018.
