Did you like the use of classic Marvel baddie consortium the Hellfire Club in X-Men: First Class? Well, there could be bad news if you were hoping they’d pop up again for the sequel.
Director Bryan Singer has already promised to make some course corrections to the X-Men franchise, which went off the rails once he left after two films. Apparently another one of those tweaks could be to leave the X-Men: FIrst Class antagonists on the bench for the upcoming installment Days of Future Past.
The Coventry Telegraph is reporting that Singer’s script does not feature the Hellfire Club, meaning they’ll apparently not be a thorn in the side of young Xavier (James McAvoy) once the action picks up.
Considering all the casting info that has already trickled out (which hasn't mentioned the group), it makes sense that the Hellfire Club will not be a part of the story. That also means great characters such as Emma Frost (January Jones), Angel Salvadore (Zoe Kravitz) and Riptide (Alex Gonzalez) will likely be sidelined.
On a larger scale, this also raises an interesting question: Days of Future Past apparently started development as more of a sequel to First Class, but since most of the original X-Men crew is coming back from the first three films, it sounds like the story may have shifted a higher percentage of the action over to the modern-day team. Hmm.
It’ll definitely be interesting to see how Singer balances two fantastic casts in one movie.
What do you think of the possible decision to dump the Hellfire Club?
