How long has Batman been around in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Here's one possible answer.
A photo of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Justice League prequel popped up on Twitter earlier this week (see below), showing Affleck surveying the wreckage of a Wayne building in Metropolis. If you look closely, Affleck's Wayne has some gray around his temples, confirming the official word that we will be meeting an older Caped Crusader in the film.
But just how old is he? Sources have told Badass Digest that the Dark Knight has been lurking in the shadows for nearly 30 years as the film opens, putting him somewhere in his 50s if we stick with the idea that Wayne first adopted his Batman persona in his early 20s. He was also 55 in The Dark Knight Returns, so that would jibe with director Zack Snyder's assertion at last year's Comic-Con that his movie is loosely inspired by the classic Frank Miller book.
Now, someone told me not long ago that Batman v Superman was actually going to also stay in continuity with the Christopher Nolan films, meaning that Affleck was going to basically play an older version of the Batman that Bale portrayed. If Badass Digest is right, however, that's not the case. Their sources say that the Affleck character has continued to fight crime all these years, although in a much more low-key way -- he's never been photographed, for example.
And in the Batcave, say those same sources, we'll see a memorial containing the remains of a Robin outfit -- clearly indicating a backstory very different from that of the Nolan trilogy, unless John "Robin" Blake did pick up the mantle for a few years until tragedy struck.
Interestingly, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) has apparently also been busy all this time as well, but like Batman, she has kept herself below the radar. Seems like it might take the splashy, city-destroying arrival of Superman (Henry Cavill) on the scene to bring these two to the surface.
It's all speculation for now, and with the film's May 2016 release still the better part of two years away, I doubt any of this will be made official for a while. But in the meantime, do you like how this version of Batman may be presented?
