Casting reports are already leaking out around the supernatural DC project, and now a rumored directors shortlist has surfaced for Justice League Dark (aka Dark Universe). Sadly, Guillermo del Toro isn’t on it.
Del Toro left the project several months ago, and the studio has been looking for a replacement ever since. According to a report at JoBlo, Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) and the duo Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (Big Bad Wolves) are leading the current shortlist. Both come from horror backgrounds, which seems to fit the direction for the supernatural corner of the DC film-verse. Of course, there's always a chance none of these options will end up directing the film. This is just an early list.
Whoever lands the gig, they could have a solid cast of A-listers to boss around. No one has been signed, but the studio is reportedly looking at Colin Farrell to play Constantine, Ron Perlman to play Swamp Thing, Ewan McGregor to play Jason Blood/The Demon, Monica Bellucci to play Madame Xanadu and Ben Mendelsohn as the film’s villain Anton Arcane. That's not a bad cast list.
It’s interesting to see Warner Bros. remain so keen on this project, even after del Toro stepped away. The studio reportedly wants to get this film in front of the camera in early 2016. The odds are getting longer, but we’re still holding out hope del Toro will reconsider. Seriously — the man behind Hellboy should be helming this movie. Sigh.
Who would you like to see take the reins of Justice League Dark?
