Hot on the heels of Paul Bettany’s deal to play the Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, a new report is making the rounds that we’ll also see Ms. Marvel pop up in Joss Whedon’s eagerly anticipated sequel.
The rumor comes via the scoop-meisters at Latino-Review, who claim that the last major casting news we’ll see for the Avengers sequel will be whoever the studio decides to bring on as Ms. Marvel. The report also notes that there might be a twist or two as to exactly how she shows up. Hmm.
The character, aka Carol Danvers, eventually goes on to use the moniker Captain Marvel in the comics. She’s been on the list of potential big-screen candidates for a while, and considering Whedon’s affinity for female heroines, it would make a lot of sense that she'd be on his short list.
But who would be a good fit for the role? The latest report likened back to previous rumors that Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Riddick) is in talks for a Marvel spot, and she definitely has the action chops for it -- and would likely prove to be a nice geek casting coup as well.
Though we’d obviously love to see Ms. Marvel show up on the big screen, we do have a few concerns. Along with all the returning stars, you also have Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and now the Vision duking it out for screen time. Whedon did a stellar job of balancing things out in the first film, but you have to worry that many more characters might stretch this thing a bit too thin.
What do you think? Could Marvel add too many characters, or is it the more the merrier?
