Warning: Possible spoilers ahead.

If a new, unconfirmed report is to be believed, a well-known Star Wars character will make an appearance in the stand-alone Han Solo movie coming next year.

We'll just skip a few lines to give you a chance to back out...

OK, here we go:

We're going to treat this as a rumor for now because the sourcing is iffy, but The Hashtag Show is saying that Darth Vader is "confirmed" to stick his mask into the goings-on of the stand-alone Han Solo prequel that Ron Howard is currently (re)directing for release next year (and in which he's already hinted of an Imperial presence).

Apparently speculation about the former Anakin Skywalker's involvement in the movie started a few months ago when Spencer Wilding, the actor who donned the Vader outfit in Rogue One, suddenly dropped out of a convention appearance reportedly because he was called to duty on the set of "the newest film in the Star Wars universe."

However, Lucasfilm never confirmed his appearance and Wilding himself later denied it, but now The Hashtag Show says a source close to the production claims that someone — not Wilding — has been stomping around the Han Solo set in Vader's boots.

There's no word on how big a role the character will allegedly play in the movie — whether it will be a handful of scenes as in Rogue One, an even shorter cameo, or something more major. There's no precedent for Solo and Vader meeting face to face before the events of the original trilogy (as far as we know — any hardcore canon experts can feel free to differ in the comments below), so it will be interesting to see how extensively they deploy Vader for this.

He was used sparingly in Rogue One and there's no doubt that the Sith Lord casts a huge shadow over Star Wars history, but let's hope that he also doesn't become a kind of fan service crutch for these spin-off movies — hey, look, it's Darth Vader!

What do you think of Darth Vader possibly showing up in the Han Solo movie?
