[Update: And it didn't take long for this particular rumor to be debunked: "It's a rumor. It's not true," a studio representative told People.com. "There is no script. There is no project to be cast in."]
One of the less likely rumors to come out about Christopher Nolan's proposed third Batman film is this report in the British tabloid The Sun, suggesting that Transformers babe Megan Fox has signed to play Catwoman.
We don't believe it for a second.
For one thing, there's no script, and no one connected with the project has said a thing about Catwoman even being in the movie. Indeed, Nolan's more likely to select an adversary who hasn't had a lot of screen time in previous film incarnations of the comic-book franchise.
For another, given Nolan's artfulness in reinventing the comic franchise each time out, it's extremely unlikely that he would hire an actress previously known primarily as eye candy for giant-robot fans to play what could be a psychologically complex villain and potential love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman, even if the character were in the movie. He replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes in TDK, which suggests that he'll go for the serious actor over the pretty face every time.
Lastly, this isn't the first time that "It Girl" of the moment Fox has been linked to a potential franchise film role: She has variously been rumored to appear as Wonder Woman and as Lara Croft in a proposed reboot of Tomb Raider, and both reports were debunked.
If it's true that Fox will play Catwoman in a third Nolan Batflick, we'll eat a pound of kitty litter.
