The first trailer for R.I.P.D. has finally arrived, and it looks like a supernatural romp of kicking ass and taking names.
After being shuffled around the release schedule, undergoing reshoots and a 3D post-conversion, we didn’t really know what to expect from the Dark Horse-inspired flick. But the trailer is surprisingly great.
Jeff Bridges steals the show as a former Wild West gunslinger hunting down evil souls, and Ryan Reynolds looks right at home as his new, recently deceased SWAT team partner at the Rest In Peace Department. The effects are a good match for the buddy-cop twist, and the trailer does an excellent job of setting up the premise. Basically, think Men In Black, but with evil souls instead of evil aliens.
Reynolds hasn't had a great track record as of late when it comes to comic-based films (see Green Lantern), but this series seems like a much better fit for style. If the movie is half as fun as the trailer, this one could be a surprise summer hit.
