When Captain Marvel was officially revealed at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago, Marvel Studios dropped bombshell after bombshell about the film, starring Brie Larson. It would feature the shape-shifting aliens the Skrulls. It would take place in the 1990s. And it would feature ... Nick Fury with two eyes!

During an interview with Fandango to promote his new movie The Hitman's Bodyguard, costarring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson—who plays Nick Fury—addressed the news for the first time, throwing in a couple of humorous quips along the way.

"I didn't know that until I read about it!" Jackson told Fandango. Given the secrecy that surrounds the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sometimes the actors themselves learn key details about the films and characters at the same time fans do. So is he excited?

"I'm good, I can work with two eyes," Jackson joked. Reynolds—Deadpool himself— added, deadpanning, "He's very good with two eyes."

Jackson did admit he had trouble with his lines when he first started shooting as a one-eyed Nick Fury—he couldn't remember them on set. Turns out, he learned his lines with both eyes open, and when he finally got on set wearing an eye patch, his brain froze.

"I had to start blocking my eye to learn my lines! Stupid kind of thing, but it totally worked," Jackson said.

The pair of comic book movie stars will team up for The Hitman's Bodyguard when it hits theaters Aug. 18 as they try to out-badass each other on the big screen. Two eyes each.
