It's real, and it's happening. Young Justice Season 3, also known as Young Justice: Outsiders, is on the way, after the extensive online campaign including Twitter hashtags and Netflix binges that revived the series years after it was canceled following a two-season run. Now Young Justice is back in production, and the creative team, including showrunners Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti and art director Phil Bourassa, traveled to San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate.
But they're not just resting on their laurels: They actually brought the full line-up of the team along with them to show off! There are familiar faces, and new ones, plus an all-new character. The full line-up:
From left to right, that's Static, Kid Flash (a new version), Robin (possibly also new), Wonder Girl, Spoiler, Blue Beetle, the all-new character Thirteen, Arrowette, Arsenal, and Beast Boy.
That's a lot to unpack. It sure looks like we're dealing with the New 52 version of Wally West as Kid Flash (it looks like he has darker skin than say Bart or Wally 1 did), and with Damian Wayne as Robin -- if the hood is indicative. Arrowette is an interesting addition, too -- an original Young Justice member in the comics, she was "replaced" on the show by Artemis, who had similar style and abilities. Artemis, of course, changed identities once before on the show, and since this looks like a color-swapped version of her original green costume, that could be her in new clothes.
It's nice to see Static, Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, and Beast Boy all back, as well as Arsenal -- with robot arm and guns instead of bow. Spoiler is an interesting addition -- some of her story is very similar to Artemis in the earlier seasons.
As for the new character, Thirteen, there is a character in the pages of DC Comics named Traci Thirteen who goes by Girl 13. Traci is a powerful magic user, connecting to the inherent power of a city. If this is Girl 13, she'll make a great addition. She also has a comic book relationship with Jaime "Blue Beetle" Reyes, so there's the possibility of some romance there, too!
No release date for Young Justice: Outsiders was revealed, but it's good to see it moving in the right direction as it's prepped for the DC Digital service that will launch with this and the Titans live-action series.
