Wanna see how New Zealand was transformed into Middle-earth?

This is a new The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug video featurette that shows why New Zealand was just perfect to become J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

So grab a ticket and take the grand tour with Peter Jackson as well as some of the actors, writers and producers from The Hobbit—including the great Sir Ian McKellen—as they show us around the truly breathtaking locales used to bring the world of Middle-earth to life.

The video's stunning, and, let's face it, it's a bit cheaper than actually getting there. Also, the whole thing just makes us even more excited for Desolation of Smaug to finally hit our screens on Dec. 13.
