September 28 in Sci-FI History: Looper (also Star Trek: The Next Generation)

It won't come as much of a surprise to learn that we've all been pretty excited about the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation around here. On this day in 1987, Captain Picard made it so. We invite you to click around the site, because here at SYFY WIRE, we went DEEP on this.

Also on this day in 2012: Looper premiered, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as the same character (sure). It's not a billion percent coherent, and there's a weird makeup thing happening with their faces, but it’s fun and thought-provoking and strangely great.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Looper took an intriguing high-concept sci-fi look at the future.

And also telekinesis:

All in all, Looper is a good movie to re-watch. Before you do, though, let's look at the birthdays today ...

Jeffrey Jones was born on this day in 1946. While a lot of people know him from Deadwood and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, we like to remember him best as the villain in Howard the Duck.

Janeane Garafalo was born on this day in 1964. And while not a lot of people were super into Mystery Men as a movie, she was one of the greatest parts of it and deserves more credit.

Tomorrow: My Favorite Martian and Madeline Kahn.
