Football fan or not, there’s still a lot to look forward to this weekend when the Seahawks take on the Broncos. Namely, some huge new sci-fi trailers.
With the Super Bowl less than a week away, the commercial spots are all locked up and word is starting to trickle out about which movies will, and won’t, be a part of the game. The future blockbusters that made the cut include Captain America: Winter Soldier, Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Transformers: Age of Extinction. For those wondering: Yes, this will mark the debut for the latest Transformers sequel.
Noticeably absent: That rumored debut trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It looks like Disney only wanted to pony up for one Marvel flick, and Cap is the safer bet, while 20th Century Fox has decided to sit out the super-expensive Super Bowl season with X-Men and Apes. Per Variety, we can probably look for that marketing push to pop up during the upcoming Winter Olympics.
Over the past several years, the Super Bowl has become the de facto place to introduce a buzzy commercial — and it’s nice to know we’ll have no less than three huge sci-fi flicks sprinkled in along with all the beer and Doritos promos. Of course, this list doesn’t include the several commercials we can surely expect that’ll have some nice sci-fi cameos and franchise tie-ins, just the ones with straight-up trailers on the way.
The game is set for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. (Central) on Fox. Will you be watching to see Peyton vs. Russell, or just for the commercials?
