The Bigfoot/Yeti/Sasquatch myth is about to get a new twist in the first trailer for Warner Bros.’ upcoming animated movie Smallfoot, where the creature from legend is not the giant furry creature itself, but a human. More specifically, it's Channing Tatum. Apparently.

Written and directed by Chicken Run screenwriter Karey Kirkpatrick (Over the Hedge), Smallfoot boasts a stellar voice cast that includes Channing Tatum (Gambit, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) as the Yeti, Migo, and James Corden (Doctor Who, The Emoji Movie) as the titular "smallfoot" of the movie, Percy. The extended cast includes Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Common (Selma), LeBron James (Space Jam 2), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Danny DeVito (The Lorax), Yara Shahidi (Black-ish), Ely Henry (Justice League Action), and Jimmy Tatro (22 Jump Street).

The trailer takes us to an icy mountain peak where Tatum narrates his encounter with the most terrifying creature ever. The twist is that while at first we think it's the mountain climber who's talking, the protagonist of the story is actually a yeti, who scares a gaggle of young kids yetis about a “mythical monster straight out of your worst nightmares.” The animation looks crisp, and it feels like it could be a fun movie for everyone. Featuring original songs, the synopsis says that Smallfoot will turn the Bigfoot legend “upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist—a human. News of this 'smallfoot' brings him fame and a chance with the girl of his dreams.

"It also throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in a rollicking story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery.”  The movie opens in theaters on Sept. 28, 2018.
