It's no secret to Whovians everywhere that Karen Gillan wants her Doctor Who character, Amy Pond, to die in the upcoming seventh season of the beloved U.K. sci-fi series. The red-headed actress has been clamoring for Amy's permanent demise for a while now. But will Who showrunner Steven Moffat actually, truly go through with killing both Amy and Rory? Maybe not.
See, even though Steven Moffat has often said that the first married couple in the Big Blue Police Box would leave the Doctor (Matt Smith) and the TARDIS in a "heartbreaking" way, saying ''It will be quite heartbreaking. I think you'll be in trouble watching it" doesn't necessarily mean that they will be killed off.
Doctor Who TV has done some digging and is reporting a few interesting tidbits that the Doctor Who and Sherlock showrunner has said since.
"Heartbreaking doesn't mean unhappy. Wait and see. I mean, it's parting. It's parting from someone, and that's always very hard," Moffat has apparently said, adding, "I don't think the Doctor's companions should die, I think that spoils the fairy tale a bit."
Moffat may be referring here to the shocking death of the Fourth and Fifth Doctors' young companion Adric (Matthew Waterhouse). During Peter Davison's tenure as the Fifth Doctor, Adric heroically died while saving the Earth in the 1982 episode "Earthshock."
And Rory has died several times on Who, but has always come back to life one way or another: He's the Kenny of Doctor Who! But perhaps it is Moffat's reluctance to kill a companion that has made Rory always come back to life:
"I'm not very good at killing people. I don't like it! I didn't even know that about myself until Russell [T Davies] pointed out that I'd written six episodes of Doctor Who for him and I hadn't killed anybody. Literally hadn't killed anybody. No one dies in 'The Empty Child,' no one dies in 'Girl in the Fireplace' except the person who was dead already. I have killed a few, but ... I haven't killed any main characters."
"But that doesn't mean that I won't, of course!"
Seems we're not really off the proverbial hook just yet. What do you think? Will Steven Moffat kill Amy and Rory? Or do you think he won't cross that particular line?
