No shade to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but one might say that the film was a bit ... lengthy, and the effects can seem a bit dated if you're being introduced to it these days. However, Star Trek: TMP also has a lot of things going for it: a fascinating story idea, themes on A.I. and humanity, a wonderful soundtrack, intense battle sequences and the relationships between the crew that we've come to know and love over the years.

Maybe that's why Star Trek: Legacy by Patrick Collins works so well. Collins created the 22-minute recut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture using Daft Punk's score for Tron: Legacy because, according to the video's description he believes "the two film's scores were very reminiscent of one another." He used that similarity to cut the Star Trek film into a shorter version, which maintains the big moments and special effects of the original.

The result is captivating, and an homage to the film that transported so many fans into the Star Trek cinematic universe all those years ago.
